The defect-mediated mechanism of the high-temperature oscillatory NO+ CO reaction on Pt {100} as revealed by real-time in-situ vibrational spectroscopy
Article Abstract:
At a partial pressure of 10(super -7) mbar, the reaction between NO and CO on Pt {100} exhibits oscillatory behavior in two distinct temperature regimes (380-411 K) accompanied by a phase transition from the (1 x 1) surface to the hex surface. The only molecular species present on the surface is atop CO, adsorbed on the (1 x 1) phase at very low coverage is seen during the oscillation cycle by using infrared reflection-absorption spectroscopy (IRAS).

A real-time vibrational spectroscopic investigation of the low-temperature Oscillatory regime of the reaction of NO with CO on Pt{100}
Article Abstract:
The method used for obtaining real-time in situ infrared reflection-absorption spectra of any reproducibly reversible process applied to reveal the time-dependent coverages of adsorbates during the low-temperature oscillatory regime of the NO + CO reaction on Pt{100} is presented. The results indicate a significant role for the nonreactive displacement of NO by CO not included in this model.

A CO2 surface molecular precursor during CO oxidation over Pt[100]
Article Abstract:
The transient surface species on the Pt[100] surface under reaction conditions are investigated using different isotopologues of the reactant gases CO and O2, infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRAS). The study concluded that this band cannot be attributed to a C-O stretching frequency of the CO from the gas-phase incorporated into a Co-O surface complex.
